Patriotic Layered Margarita

Hi y'all! Happy Memorial Day - I loved finally getting some beautiful summer weather this weekend and having a long weekend to kick back and enjoy a good margarita. These are perfect for all our summer holidays like Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day... or could of course be made any time for a fun and festive drink! I'll be honest, they weren't as effort free as I was expecting based on some other similar posts and ideas I'd seen online, but after a little trial and error I got the hang of it and can hopefully make them a little more effort free for you! I'm not going to lie.... once accomplished these were dangerously good, like I feel like I'm drinking a refreshing smoothie and there's no alcohol in this kind of good. On that note, let's get to it so you can enjoy them too!
This recipe yields 5-6 margaritas, each big enough to fill a mason jar as pictured. Feel free to cut the recipe down, or make more, depending on your needs.

Note: I used a few drops of red & blue food dye in those layers in order to get them to be a vibrant color. This is totally not necessary if you would prefer not to use food coloring.

Also, the white layer blended in to the others so quickly and is basically non-existent by the time I captured photos, however still make this layer, as it really does help keep the red and blue apart!
INGREDIENTS
Red Layer:
  • 2.5 oz. tequila
  • .5 oz grand marnier or citronage.
  • 1 handful strawberries
  • 1 handful raspberries
  • 5 oz. margarita mix (strawberry mix for best color and flavor)
  • Ice cubes - enough so that the ice is covering the margarita ingredients + an inch or two in the blender
White Layer:
  • 2.5 oz. tequila
  • .5 oz grand marnier or citronage.
  • 5 oz. margarita mix
  • Ice cubes - enough so that the ice is covering the margarita ingredients + an inch or two in the blender
Blue Layer:
  • 2.5 oz. tequila
  • .5 oz grand marnier or citronage.
  • 2 handfuls blueberries
  • 5 oz. margarita mix
  • Ice cubes - enough so that the ice is covering the margarita ingredients + an inch or two in the blender
Directions:
  1. Add all ingredients for the red layer into the blender, blend until evenly combined and smooth. Divide among your glasses and set all in the freezer, freeze for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Rinse blender.
  3. Add all ingredients for the white layer into the blender, again blending until thoroughly blended and smooth. Remove glasses from the freezer and set on the counter in prep for adding the next layer.
  4. DO NOT pour the white layer in from the blender. Carefully spoon out the white layer and set on top of the red layer in the glass. If you just pour it in they will instantly mix together.
  5. Put all glasses back in the freezer to set for another 5-10 minutes.
  6. Add all ingredients for the blue layer into the blender, for the last time blend up until smooth.
  7. Same as you did with the white layer, you are going to carefully spoon the blueberry layer on top so it just sits on top and doesn't mix in.
  8. Cheers!
