naan flatbread: cheesy spinach and pesto

Making a naan bread pizza has been on my dinner to do list for ages now. I'm so glad I finally bit the bullet and made it because oh my god is it good. If you are unfamiliar with naan it is a fluffy (almost pita like) flat bread very popular in Indian, Persian, and some Asian cuisines. It's so good on it's own, but due to how nice and flat it is it really makes a great pizza crust as well! If you've followed along with any of my previous posts you may know that I totally have a thing for pesto, so a pesto flatbread it was. I added on some fresh spinach & mozzarella and a little Gorgonzola cheese and bacon bits to add in some bolder flavor which really complimented the pesto and mozzarella base. It turned out so yummy, I hope you enjoy!

The weekend is here which means the pizza craving is real, y'all. I figured I better get creative and find a healthier way to kill that craving considering I actually got my butt to the gym before work this week. If I'm going to be up at 4:30 a.m. to work out I better try not to kill that progress with my first weekend meal. Early mornings are no joke. These spaghetti squash pizza boats were the perfect compromise. Cut down the carbs & get in a veggie serving all while enjoying the cheesy, saucy, pepperoni goodness. I also love that the oven does most of the work on this recipe allowing me to kick back with my glass of wine and relax.

Is it just me or do y'all crave pizza every time the weekend rolls in? Or let's be honest like, every day? It's really an issue, I can't afford to take in those calories every time I get the craving, but also not willing to give up my love for pizza. Healthy alternatives are a must and this one is probably my favorite because it is so easy, and the flatout wrap bakes into a nice crisp perfect "crust". At only 100 calories for the whole base, and protein packed toppings this pizza is one I can feel a little less guilty about indulging in! I've made a pretty darn deliciousegg white pizza crust, which is great if you want a thicker or fuller base, but I'll be honest, this is probably my favorite healthy alternative pizza right here!

Grilled on the BBQ Pizza

So tossing pizza on the grill was a total test, and I'm so glad I gave it a try! Before we get any further I"ll forewarn you that this makes a crispy bottomed crust, like really crispy, with a great BBQ flavor so if crispy thin crusts or wood fired pizza aren't for you this may not be up your alley, but I have to say... it was so different and so good! My boyfriend got some grill stones set up on his outdoor grill recently and I'd been excited to try this ever since. While I have read online that you can cook directly on the grill, I was starting with raw dough and wanted to make sure I had a smooth surface to work with. Try finding a good pizza stone or granite slab that is grill safe. I'll keep this recipe pretty simple and focused on the how to of cooking the pizza and let you top however you desire!

Garlic Egg White & Oat Pizza Crust

Y'all I am so excited to finally be sharing this recipe with you - it is one of my very favorites! Pizza is on my list of top favorite foods, but as much as I love it I usually always feel guilty eating it because of how loaded with calories & carbs it is. This pizza crust made mostly of egg whites & oats is only 400 calories for the whole crust and is loaded with protein! Not only is it healthier, it actually tastes good and can be picked up and eaten like a piece of pizza should be. I topped this with all low fat and fat free cheese as well as turkey pepperoni to keep on the trend of healthier alternatives. While it may not taste as good as your standard pizza it is pretty darn close and leaves you feeling much better! I hope y'all enjoy it as much as I always do!
